But I have always loved your notes recounting your memories of having tea with Eva. It captures so much of the real essence of this wonderful woman. I consider myself to be so fortunate, to have actually been one of her students when she first started teaching at Pratt (1940-1943). Don Dohner, met Eva in 1939 and had the good foresight to hire Eva to teach a course in "Ceramics Design for industry" (or something on that order). Dohner also had the good sense to set up a fully-equipped Plaster Shop for her on the street floor of the Engineering building, and staffed with a full-time, industry-veteran plaster technician (Mr.Canzani?) who instructed us in the specialized industry techniques of jiggering, sliip-cast mold-making, etc. During this period she was working on designs for Sears, as well as her Museum collection for Castleton, She had us break up into teams of three (students) and work collaboratively on what she called utility ware (stacking plates, cups and saucer designs) for low-cost, high-speed production---ostensibly to serve war-time needs (i.e: military). She was so gentle in manner, but was still a tough task-master. She would scold you if your teapot spout dripped, or if you had mistakenly left an undercut in your slip-mold. It is wonderful to see the current outpouring of sentiments regarding her passing, from so many of those whose lives she touched. With Aloha, BUDD

Colleen Mathis Browning comments on A Dangerous Idea

Katherine,

Everything you touch is magnificent. I love your website. I'm going to be all over it now that I know it's here. But the rss feed button has some bad code in it. And there's no way to contact you. Plus, is the log in only for clients? Because I see no way to register. Sorry I'm off topic here in the comments section, but I'd love to be in touch again, would you mind emailing me?
--
Colleen

Maclaren Techno XT Is Super Safe! comments on Stroller Theory

While strollers of the past may not have been all about keeping children safe, they've definitely come a long way. We have a Maclaren Techno XT and we love it - its kept our kids safe and comfy throughout their childhoods. Thank goodness companies like Maclaren consider safety to be one of the foremost issues in designing strollers these days!

candice-leigh comments on Art Center Futures

Oh, this is FABULOUS.

Mike comments on The Insight : Opportunity Deck

Do you have any samples of the topics to categories that are included in the insights and opportunities decks?

Devin comments on F L Wright's Meyer May House Anniversary

Hi Katherine~
really enjoyed reading through your posts.. a chance to learn what I have been missing out.. hopefully, I can incorporate the rationales into my design process..

many thanks~

Matthew Grayson comments on Crossing the Chasm

Hi Katherine,

Steve M sent us to your blog before we went on the trip to Guatemala for the Caltech class.
